Child Care - Youth Offending Team
The Youth Offending Team is responsible for dealing effectively with the prevention and resolution of youth crime. Its purpose is to prevent young people from offending, those who have offended from re-offending, maintaining them within their local communities and aiding them in the development. It is responsible for ensuring the co-ordination of the work of all agencies inside and outside the Council who are directly involved in work with young offenders.
You can expect:
- That under the Crime and Disorder Act a Reprimand and Final Warning Scheme to be operated in co-operation with Dyfed Powys Police;
- Pre-sentence reports to completed within 10 working days;
- Us to operate a new Bail-Support scheme from the Workshop to enhance community safety and reduce remands to custody or care;
- Supervision orders to be run from the Workshop on either individual or group bases. Where it represents the public interest information will be reported back in detail to the Courts. This should enhance confidence in the use of Supervision for offenders who may otherwise become a greater risk to their community;
- Every young person in Pembrokeshire on a Supervision Order to be seen within 5 working days and their plans to be reviewed at least every 3 months to comply with national standards;
- A clear explanation and publicising of the new range of youth offending work as new legislations introduced during 1999;
- An adherence to the National Standards, developed in conjunction with the new National Youth Justice Board;
- In partnership with colleagues in the Education Service we ensure that clients are fully engaged with the educational process and take advantage of educational opportunities available to them.
